Robbie Namy

I grew up loving to draw and sketch, taking art classes as a young girl at the Rochester Museum of Art in upstate New York. I continued my formal training at Cornell University (painting and calligraphy) followed by a Master of Fine Arts from the George Washington University.

I never stopped learning and evolving as an artist. For 10 years, I painted with a mentor, Robert, “Bob” White, a member of the Baltimore Realists’ Group. Bob taught me to interpret still life and to appreciate the interplay between light and dark in any composition. Studying with Bob greatly enhanced my passion for painting, as well as my technique.

My artistic process is a never ending renewal of past experiences. The freer I am with palette knives, wedges, rollers and other tools, the more interesting the outcome. Recently, I have been exploring collage, sometimes embedding clippings from my own work and even found objects. Everything has potential for beauty and meaning in collage.

For the past three decades I have also enjoyed a professional career as a graphic designer and jewelry artist. Design is a dynamic play of color, shape, negative space, texture and typography. These principles can be equally applied to works of fine art.

My paintings and jewelry designs have been shown in various venues: Art at the Mill (Millwood, Virginia), Second Street Gallery (Charlottesville, Virginia), Georgetown Hospital (Washington, DC), Goodwin House Gallery, (Alexandria, Virginia), the Museum of Women in the Arts and the World Bank (Washington, DC), the Annapolis Waterfront Festival (Annapolis, Maryland,) and multiple shows at my studio at the Columbia Pike Artists’ Studios (Arlington, Virginia).
