Morgan Norwood
Studio #15
Morgan Johnson Norwood enjoys blending, and always has; artistically, professionally, and personally, her passion is bringing two aspects of life together to create something special. Norwood has enjoyed blending her love of science with art most of her career, majoring in biology and art before graduating with a BFA in studio art and art education from The University of Georgia; enveloping museums and object learning with studio art-making in her teaching, holding a MAT in museum education from The George Washington University. Growing up in the Atlanta area, her southern family’s histories and tales are deeply intertwined, rooted with the blend of polite charm and dark trauma that has shaped the imagery in her layered, nature-inspired paintings that teeter on the brink of beautiful and unsettling.
Norwood notes: “We as humans are deeply connected to the natural world from our very life cycles and cellular structures to the emotions mirrored in youth and aging, caregiving and independence, and conflict and community. I perceive these stages as lessons and visual components to my work; it’s a constant source of inspiration and comfort.” Norwood’s love of blending extends beyond the studio as well. National Board-certified, she teaches visual art for Arlington Public Schools, helping elementary children develop their own artistic passions. Recently she has remarried, blending her family of three with that of her childhood friend-now husband and his three children.
Norwood creates in studio 15 at the Columbia Pike Artist Studios. Studio visits, commissions, art sales, and consulting requests are welcomed.
